    Hi:

Iam going to start using virtual machines to do some load balancing and running jobs for some groups.

Is any one currently using it on Windows, Red_hats, Solaries.

Any comments, suggestions  will be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Ramon,

We run ESP here.  I would say that the majority of our distributed agents are on VM's under VSphere.  The exception, of course, would be AIX.  The number of jobs that we run on Windows servers number into the thousands, and we've not had much in the way of issues.

I suggest you consider the requirements of the servers themselves.  For the most part, if all they will be doing is simple batch screes and tasks, then VMs are fine . However, if a server in question runs a resource intensive application and your scheduler is just along for the ride, you may want to keep it on physical hardware.  For example, a resource intensive SQL or Oracle server that runs an agent should probably stay a physical box.

    For what it's worth .. .

Hi Thanks.  What about using the autosys client software to run  as virtual machines.

Have you or anyone noticed any latency on the virtual servers themselves.   Like a series of jobs in certain machines taking its time to start  or when the batch finish they are slow reporting back to the scheduler.
