We know that for Quorum determination good practice the primary site should have at least 3 nodes. Secondary sites that are likely to be promoted to primary in an event of disaster should also enlist 3 nodes. unless you only have two nodes, in which case the documentation says to go with 2-single node sites.

The fault tolerance chart goes up to 9 nodes, but is 9 the maximum ?

is there a maximum number of supported nodes per site, or is it theoretical?

    Thanks
    Seb

Hello Seb, From online documentation page https://techdocs.broadcom.com/us/en/symantec-security-software/identity-security/privileged-access-manager/3-4-1/deploying/set-up-a-cluster.html:
    • Cluster size:
A Primary Site is limited to nine members. We recommend three and a maximum of five members. (See
      Quorum
, below.) The more members that you add, the more communication work the cluster has to do. The total number of members in all sites is limited to 1,000.

Since in general you cannot exclude that a secondary site will have to (temporarily) be made primary at one point in the future, you should just limit all sites to 9 members, with the recommendation being 3 or 5 per site.
