Blacklist software / Block software launching

Hi Team,

We have CA ITCM 14 SP 2 in our production environment and we have a requirement, need to restrict software / application opening in desktop / laptop based on license metering.

Ex : We have MS Office 2016 with 100 approved license. We need to allow only 100 machines to open and work MS Office 2016. If 101 person trying to access MS Office 2016 in his machine, it shouldn't allow user to launch / open MS Office 2016 software / application.

How to achieve this via CA ITCM

It can be achieved using online software usage task. It has different options to block/monitor or keep the 101st user in queue.

Tried online software usage method, but it doesn't help..Please find the configuration we did.

Unless Microsoft has changed its licensing, or you have a special contract then you pay for Office per installed computer and not the number of concurrent users.

 

Microsoft office is a sales bundle that consists of multiple products like Word, Excel, etc. Depending on which bundle you purchase depends on which products you are allowed to use.

 

The Software Metering in Client Automation works at a "Product" level. So, you can say only allow 100 copies of Word to run etc.

Thanks for the clarification.. So we can restrict at individual product level (word , excel , powerpoint,etc..) and not on complete suite (MS Office 2016 STD).. Correct me, if my understanding is wrong

What kind if license do you have with Microsoft? Is it a concurrent user license?

MS Office is device is host(device) based licensed.

How about we can monitor usage of other license metrics like  (PVU , CPU , Core , CAL based licenses.) Is ITCM support these license metrics usage ?..

Client Automation provided the inventory data to the higher level functions of IT Asset Management (ITAM) and Software Asset Management (SAM). There are separate solutions for that which cover all the contract and vendor management etc.
