UPM Enterprise Management

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is available, or can be.

 

We have a client with a local Enterprise Manager and Domain Manager in South Africa, with various regional SS servers. This client also has about 150 global sites, with 5 of them having their own internet breakout points. So instead of downloading UPM packages in SA and staging them to all sites. We want to make use of these 5 sites (UK, US, Germany, China, Australia).

Each of the 5 will have their own DM, and SS servers, with UPM installed.

 

Q1

If UPM is installed on the EM,and patches accepted, Can it instruct the 5 DM's to download the same patches locally (in their respective countries). Instead on connecting to each UPM console and accepting/downloading.

 

Q2

If a package is downloaded/available on DM's, Can we stage from the EM to SS attached to the DM's, ? (package must be staged from country DM to SS, and NOT from EM to DM to SS - no WAN traffic)

The UPM architecture can be either Enterprise based or Domain based but cannot be both, so it’s an either or decision.

Can you explain further.

If it's enterprise based (so single point of admin), packages will get downloaded on EM, and will then have to be staged across WAN to DM's and SS (am I correct in saying this)

That is correct. If UPM is installed at the ES then the packages are built on the ES and then downloaded to every DM. If UPM is installed on the DM then every DM downloads the package from the Internet and builds it locally on each DM.

It would be a nice feature on the EM UPM console, if you can schedule a download for selected/all DM's.
