Deployment - "No primer transport"

Hello everyone, I am facing difficulty in deployment in ITCA, the error is mentioned "No primer transport", even after following the steps described in http://www.ca.com/us/support/ca-support-online/product-content/knowledgebase-articles/tec618470.aspx still not getting solution, someone has gone through something similar?

Hi Mauricio.

 

It could be a firewall problem, can you check if target machinet has the firewall active? If so, please check if the port 4104 UDP is open, inbound and outbound.

 

Port 4104 UDP is the default CAM port.

 

Also check the 135 port.(Windows RPC call to start primer install)

Based on the log, it appears that the install got past the dmprimer and CAM installations. If that is the case, CAM should be running on the target machine. From the target machine, try:

 

CAMPING <scalability_server>

 

and see if you get a reply or not. Try the same from the SS - can you successfully CAMPING to the target? If not, as Oscar mentioned above it could be a firewall issue. Make sure UDP 4104 is open bidirectionally.

It appears that the ports are not open bi-directional. A quick test would be to use the PortQryUI tool from the Domain Manager to the target and vice-versa for ports.

The target machine with this disable Firewall, still need to perform the opening of the ports?
In the end, through the tests I did, even enabling the ports, presents "No Primer Transport"

What about by hostname  - can you 'camping itam' from the SS, and also camping the hostname of the SS from ITAM?

 

Actually, are you deploying the agent from the Domain Manager itself or via the local scalability server? The problem may actually be cam communication between ITAM and the DM. In the deployment wizard there is the option in step 3 to Transfer package from Scalability Server. If this agent is being pointed to an external SS then you may want to try this option if you are not already. Note that you need to stage the agent package to the SS first via the deployment wizard.

Please make sure that the Agent was uninstalled correctly.

 

Make sure if the directories were all deleted.

 

Also please check if exist something under the Computer Associates name in the Windows  Registry Edit, sometimes the Lite Agent still appearing after an unistall. You can check writting on the CMD: wmic, then product get name. check if the Lite Agent appear.

I suppose that you used the option Search (Ctrl + F) from the Regedit,

 

Please, verify this path: Local Machine -> Software -> ComputerAssociates.

 

Also You can search by CAF, CAM, AGENT.Just verifyng that, the agent was removed completly.

 

If you didn't found anything please follow this:

 

The target machine has the Antivirus active? If so, please deactivate it completly and try to deploy the agent again.

Can you reproduce the issue but first, please put on the Domain, the dmdeploy into detail trace with the command below:

 

cftrace -c set -l detail -f cf -pp dmdeploy

 

Then check the TRC_CF_DMDEPLOY.log.

You can reset the log level with this command: cftrace -c reset

Could you paste the camstat from your target pc ? so we can see the port used

 

Is it upgrade or clean install?

 

What is the operating system and service pack ?

 

Could you try to telnet 192.168.250.89 from your dsm server or scalability server ? ok / failed

 

Could you camping with hostname to 192.168.250.100  from target pc ? I saw you did with IP address?also camping 192.168.250.100/hostname -s 8192

 

Do nslookup on both itam and x.x.100 ip?

 

Check if the user can do copy and delete to the target pc?

No primer transport is a generic error for all Deployment issues.

 

The best thing to do is find where in the process it is failing

 

Is there a CA\DSM\dmprimer folder ?

Is cam installed  camstat ?        (might have to cd to that folder, if the path statement is not updated)

Can the DM camping the agent ?

Under CA\DSM\dmprimer is there a Unicenter folder ?

Did the agent gets installed ?

 

Certain things that can issues are:

 

No access to the admin$ share on the agent.

Ports not unblocked between the agent and DM

Cam communication not working between agent DM

Is this as desired i.e. do you want to push from the DM as opposed to the SS? Ensure ports are open at both ends not just the client and remember routers can act as firewalls.

Firewall is completely disabled on both machines, I found that the router is not being used as Firewall, I can access by network, mapping of the 2 machines.

Do you have this issue only in 1 computer?

 

Also, If you don't have to strictly  install the agent via DeployWizard, I would try to install the agent manually.

What happens is that needed to debug these errors because we are facing in some customers that same message: No Primer Transport, when the deployment is performed by ITCM.

And as much as the prerequisites were checked, still can not solve.

You have to verify that the ports are properly enabled:

 

 

UDP: 137, 138, 4104

TCP: 135, 139, 445, 4105, 4728

 

 

If you have antivirus and this has policies network constraints, should have the same ports so you have connection between machines, otherwise you will have to uninstall the antivirus on your computer when you need to do the installation.
