  • 1.  Install of 12.3 with Postgres

    Posted Aug 04, 2019 01:37 PM
    Hi everyone,

Does anybody tried to install a version 12.3 (or 12.2) with Postgres as mains DB ?

I'm facing an issue with the parameter vacuum_cost_limit = 10000 that is mandatory to be set in the postgresql.conf but seems to not be recognized when using the DB.Load (ucybdbld) to initialise an empty DB. Found nothing in the support knowledge base or tickets.

    Got the following message :

U00029183 Missing mandatory database setting: Set the PostgreSQL "vacuum_cost_limit" setting to 10000.

    But my postgresql.conf contains :

    #vacuum_cost_limit = 200      # 1-10000 credits
    #
    # Automic modification
    #
    vacuum_cost_limit = 10000

I have stopped and restarted the Postgres DB to use the new value of the parameter. and left the autovacuum... parameter set to the default :

    #autovacuum_vacuum_cost_limit = -1 # default vacuum cost limit for
                                                                 # autovacuum, -1 means use
                                                                 # vacuum_cost_limit

Any idea or solution that is not indicated in the documentation ?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I did 2 Postgres installs for 12.2, one personal demo and the other customer use (I used to be an Automic Consultant).  There was a variance between the postgres install and what was needed but I thought I had a ticket to update documentation and that it centered around the db build script prior to db load.  I find vacuum_cost_limit = 10000 in the docu.  https://docs.automic.com/documentation/webhelp/english/ALL/components/DOCU/12.2/AWA%20Guides/help.htm#AWA/Admin/admin_PostgreSQL.htm

FWIW my windows 10, postgres 10.? conf is attached.  I did some custom config to logging for troubleshooting.

    # -----------------------------# -----------------------------# PostgreSQL configuration file# -----------------------------## This file consists of lines of the form:##   name = value## (The "=" is optional.)  Whitespace may be used.  Comments are introduced with# "#" anywhere on a line.  The complete list of parameter names and allowed# values can be found in the PostgreSQL documentation.## The commented-out settings shown in this file represent the default values.# Re-commenting a setting is NOT sufficient to revert it to the default value;# you need to reload the server.## This file is read on server startup and when the server receives a SIGHUP# signal.  If you edit the file on a running system, you have to SIGHUP the# server for the changes to take effect, run "pg_ctl reload", or execute# "SELECT pg_reload_conf()".  Some parameters, which are marked below,# require a server shutdown and restart to take effect.## Any parameter can also be given as a command-line option to the server, e.g.,# "postgres -c log_connections=on".  Some parameters can be changed at run time# with the "SET" SQL command.## Memory units:  kB = kilobytes        Time units:  ms  = milliseconds#                MB = megabytes                     s   = seconds#                GB = gigabytes                     min = minutes#                TB = terabytes                     h   = hours#                                                   d   = days

  • 3.  RE: Install of 12.3 with Postgres

    Posted Aug 05, 2019 11:10 AM
    Hi,

    Thanks for the information.

I finally found the reason why this parameter wasn't recognized.

There is two locations fr the postgresql.conf file :

    - the share directory where the engine is installed
    - the main directory where the databases are installed  =>  this is the one that is used as far as I know now

So I updated one file when the system was looking in the other one ....

Maybe a note in the installation documentation coud point this to avoid wasting time to find something that is clear maybe for a Postgres specialist but not for common people.

Works now with a Postgres 11.4.3 and pgadmin 4.4.11 except for a few things in the User Interface. I will now investigate those issues, maybe this time related to the java version or tomcat version or something else ...

Hope this will finally work as indicated because the new features are supposed to close the gap with the JUI !
