Is anyone using any 3rd party alerting tools with Automtic to alert them if jobs fail or there are issues? Currently we only use Exchange but we are looking for another option as well. in case Exchange has issues.

I investigated PagerDuty at one time, but we are too small of a shop to cost-justify the product.  What we have we built our-self.  We send emails, text, voice, open a ServiceNow incident, and post to a slack channel.

    Hi Pete,

Can you please let me know more about the text and voice alerts? Do we have install any extra plugins or something?

We send text alerts by taking advantage of the SMTP email interface that phone carriers provide.  The SMS gateway listing on this web page helps one to get started; https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/27051/use-email-to-send-text-messages-sms-to-mobile-phones-for-free/

We send voice messages via the free cloud based IFTTT application.  We set up an IFTTT account for each recipient with a rule will translate an incoming SMTP email into a voice call.  Then UC4 just sends an SMTP email at it.

We use Nagios in some spots, e.g. to implement Heartbeat monitoring for agents, but it could in theroy be used for any other job, too. The usual approach is to have a small Nagios check that looks into the Automic DB for completion criteria (e.g. last ENDED_OK no more than an hour ago), and then alerts if criteria are met, or not met, depending on what you want.

    Stock Nagios functionality really.

    Hi Mike,

we have integrated Automation Engine with BMC TrueSight and BMC Helix, all job failures are forwarded this way and Incidents are automatically created.

Wee feed our job errors into ServiceNow to create incidents/service tickets.using their mail interface.

Personally I use eNotify on my phone to turn certain key word combinations into audible alerts.
