Set the Minimum Number of WP's as type "W"

    Hi All!

I wanted to post a question we received about worker processes as I believe there may be others with the same question. Some users are asking what determines whether a WP is assigned to type "W" by default or whether it is assigned to type "D" as a dialog worker process. The number of WP's assigned as "W" is determined by WP_MIN_NUMBER in UC_SYSTEM_SETTINGS. This will set the minimum number of WP's you would like to remain as worker processes. This may be helpful if you have many WPs and are trying to ensure that a large number of them remain as type "W" to help with your configuration.

    I hope this helps!

I wanted to add to this because it really is a recurring topic.
    • JWP and PWP do not count against the WP Min number
    • on startup the WP_MIN_NUMBER is, in a sense, like the max number, because every WP after JWP+PWP+WP_MIN_NUMBER*WP is converted to a DWP
    • After startup you can manually convert DWP's to WP's without limitation but you can not create DWPs if that would put the WP's below the WP_MIN_NUMBER.

One other piece of information I've noticed that comes from this:
A lot of 'small' customers will end up utilizing the default setup that comes within the service manager. (2 CP's, 4 WP's).
The default WP_MIN_NUMBER is 5 - which means that without modifications they will never have active DWP's. Even for small environments, no DWP's can have a performance impact.
