The experience of support is that you need to have a good oracle DBA on staff to work with to properly tune and maintain the database.
if you do not have a good dba or dba team that really knows oracle well then support would not suggest this as a back end database for your environment.
If you have a good DBA/team that is very familiar with oracle then the performance should be the same from the UIM application side.
If you are going to be doing support for the client and are not familiar with oracle and out to troubleshoot it I also would not suggest this as an option.
