  • 1.  Get queue status

    Folks,

We have customer hubs where the attach queues stop sending to the get queues on secondary hubs.  How can we watch those queues to see if they are down?  We've had a couple situation where we check the customer hub and the queues have over a million items that weren't sent.

    something does not make sense.
Attach queues do not send messages, they only collect messages.
    Get queues to retrieve messages.
If the get queue can not connect to the attach queue you should have gotten an alarm.
is the connection down or did is slow down?
The hub has a built-in mechanism where it will try to collect the number of messages set in the bulk size. Byt default 100 messages.
If this fails or times out due to latency or low bandwidth the hub will start reducing the bulk size until it gets to 1.
Once it reaches 1 currently the only way to reset it is to restart the hub.

The first thing to address would be any high latency issues or low bandwidth connections between the hub. you can do a transfer check between the hubs on the hub screen. this value should be well above 300 kbs
Once that is done make sure you have applied the below two KB articles to all hubs and controllers on hubs.

attach queues, queue messages for the get queues but the get queues aren't getting messages and we aren't getting any alerts.  this is 8.31 but we are working to get to 9.20

UIM version will not change this behavior.
Make sure you are running hub 7.93 and controller 7.93 and newer on all hubs and apply the KB articles.
    should resolve the issue.

Also you can set hub to alarm
hub > configure > settings > general > queue settings / Alarm on queue size:

    and
    QueueCheck utility

On the hub that is running the get queues, on the queue status tab, what color is the indicator on the get queue? If green or yellow, what happens if you select "detach"?

Similarly, on that hub, is the tunnel to the hub with the attach queue active? If the tunnel is active, what happens if you select "disconnect"?

One thing to consider is that this is not a UIM issue. Sonicwall and a couple other firewall vendors have the concept that a long running connection repents a security risk and so will stop passing data after a period of time. In the cases I last had with this issue (3+ years ago) neither side of the tunnel actually terminated and the get queue would keep trying to attach to the remote queue but fail.

You do want to be on hub and controller versions of at least 7.9x or newer with the latest relevant hotfixes. If you need to be on something older, my recommendation would be 7.72 - that was the sweet spot between defects and functionality for a very long time.
