    Hi Experts,

We are Using CA UIM 8.5.1.

    We have

    Primary HUB
    Secondary HUB 1
    Secondary HUB 2
    Cluster Database of UIM
    HA HUB

So we need to perform patch activities on these servers, so my question is what is the exact series to start and stop Nimsoft Robot Watcher services.

    Kindly Suggest.

    Regards
    Dharmender

In your situation it doesn't matter the patch order if your just talking about OS level patching. Or are you also patching UIM?
Your concern is if you need to reboot everything would be what reboot order.
If its just the OS level patches then reboot then reboot in this order:
    1. Database(s)
    2. Primary Hub
    3. 2ndary Hubs
    Then the rest..
After the reboot everything just sync's back up.

    Good afternoon.

In order to prepare for patching.  Should these servers be shutdown in any particular order?  I am thinking that before the Database server is patched and rebooted; to stop the services on my Primary Hub, 2 secondary hubs and my Portal server.

Thanks in advance for any advice provided..

Yes, stop the primary so the data_engine is not trying to communicate with a database that's not available.
This will also prevent all the messages from building up at the primary overwhelming the queues.
Leave the secondary hubs running so the messages will build up there.

So stop the service at the database server & primary hub.
Update the database server, bring it back online.
Update the primary, bring it back online.
Then on to the second tier hubs.

    David,

Thanks for the update and info.  As a matter of fact; we are beginning the patching right now, so I am implementing your recommended.

    You are right on time!

    Hey Daniel,

    It's a OS level Patching!

2nd thing Patching will performed on 3 windows server which are hosting primary hub and 2 are hosting secondary hub.

As windows team need to perform some patching on these servers, at that time we need to stop our CA UIM primary and Secondary hub service(Nimsoft robot watcher), once patching is completed, after that we need to start our CA UIM primary and Secondary hub service(Nimsoft robot watcher).

So kindly let me know what is the sequence to stop and start service(Nimsoft robot watcher) during patch activity.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hey sorry for dely.

Your order of startup is the same order I listed for rebooting the boxes. DB box, Primary Hub then all 2ndary hubs.

In the end though, the order doesn't really matter as once all services are UP and running, they will all just start syncing.

Thank you very much for the confirmation, really appreciated!

Just have another scenario if we have another server which is hosting HA(HA probe is running on that)

    primary Hub
    one sec Hub
    HA hub

At Windows OS level patching activity, what will be the sequence to start or stop (Nimsoft robot watcher).

    Thank you in advance

Just reboot in the order we described like 4x already.

There is another line of thinking which would recommend first doing the update at a test robot and hub first. OS updates should not impact UIM but just in case there is some wisdom to testing first.
