  • 1.  Migrate/move CA UIM infratstructure from datacenter to Azure Cloud

    Hi Folks,

     

    Our customer is moving from a datacenter to microsoft Azure cloud, so all our UIM nimosft servers needs to be moved to Azure Cloud. I need to know if there is any document or steps available to move them to Cloud.

     

    UIM servers which needs to be moved are:

    Primary Hub server

    Fail over hub server

    Database server

    UMP server

     

    Currently 5 secondary/regional hubs are reporting to primary server via tunnel&queues, is their any impact when we move to the cloud.

     

    Please suggest what can be the best approach to achieve this.

    below are some KB artciles for moving UIm servers.

    The process will be the same

     

     

     

     

     

     

    ********WANRING*******

    Support has seen a LOT of issues with performance when running UIM in cloud

    this can be due to but not limited to some of the following

    slow DISK I/O

    high latency Disk I/O

    Slow network I/O

    High Latency network I/O

     

    the above could be a problem on ANY of the server from UIM primary to SQL server to UMP.

     

    Also note we have seen issue with the SQL server database not being provided enough rights to properly run.

     

    These are all very tough to track down.

    from an application side we can not correct for this or make changes to deal with this.

    Thanks Howard for the detailed info. i will keep this in mind about the risks involved, since we do not have any option we have to move to the cloud.

     

    Any pre checks which we can perform to detect and rectify these known issues related to network&IO latency.

    I do not know of any pre-checks that can be done.

    Maybe others do?

     

    usually these systems have no load on them when provisioned so can not tell what will happen under load.

    Hi,

     

    You may also want to speak with CA Services about this. They will be able to advise further on running UIM on these platforms.
