  • 1.  Downloading MSI and RPM installers?

    Posted Sep 11, 2013 05:41 PM

Does anyone know how to get the latest versions of the MSI and RPM installers for the robot? Our distsrv has a package named robot_msi_rpm, but this does not appear in the Internet archive. I see downloaders for the robot and infrastructure EXE installers on the downloads page of the support site but nothing for MSI/RPM.

    Thanks,

    Keith

    Hi Keith,

The only place I've found them is on your hub's local download page (httpd probe). Thus, they're also somewhere in the directory structure aswell, can't just remember where. Or did you mean where you can download newer versions to update those?

I asked the support group and general consensus is that you should update the ADE probe and that will update your DEB, RPM and MSI files.

As for where they are locally:

Here is a nice case note from SteveD on the subject:

The Robot Installer MSI is included in the InstallNMS installation package. After running installation, you will find the robot_msi_rpm packages on the NMS Server page at http://localhost:8008 among other component install packages.

Note that the installer will require an answer file and is intended for silent installs.

See Nimsoft Articles for other information regarding ADE and bulk robot installs.

    ADE Requirements:

Platform: Windows, Linux (glibc >= 2.3)
    Software: x86, x86_64, robot_msi_rpm
    Hardware: Windows 2003, Windows 2008, RedHat 5.x, RedHat 6.x, SLES 11, SLES 12

    Dependencies:

    1. robot_msi_rpm
    2. Robot
    3. java_jre

***The robot_msi_rpm.zip package comes with NMS 6.0 therefore once installed it will be available on the NMS Server page at port 8008.

***If your running v5.6x you can find and download the package in the Nimsoft Internet Archive at:

    http://support.nimsoft.com/Files%5CArchive%5C00253%5Crobot_msi_rpm-1_10.zip

If you get an error upon initial installation: "error, unable to install dependencies, robot_msi_rpm, section=httpd" even though you confirmed that the httpd package exists in your local archive, you may have to manually deploy the httpd package and then proceed with ADE.

Charlie beat me to it and with a better answer! :smileyhappy:

Just a quick note - just updating the ADE probe is insufficient - you have to download the robot_exe package from the Internet Archive as it is a dependency in the ADE package.

We're back to EXE installers again? So should I be using the ones on the downloads page of the support site? Or are those different from the ones the ADE uses?

I see the robot_exe package in the Internet archive, but the version number is 1.10. So the package version does not match the robot version? That seems a bit strange. Is there any way to tell what robot version is contained inside that version of the package? It looks like that is not even covered in the release note.

I do not see the robot_rpm package in the Internet archive.

I really want to be able to go to new versions of the robot as needed without having to upgrade my infrastructure (including the ADE) and without needing to deploy the robot_update package on every install. Hopefully that is within the realm of possibility.

Thanks for the info so far, all!

    Hi Keith,

Looks like you need to use IM to see the robot_rpm package in the Internet Archive - not sure why that is...

    Robot_Packages_IM.png

FWIW - I think it makes sense to have the robot_msi/rpm/deb package version numbers correspond to the robot version they install. A good suggestion for the Ideas forum. ;-)

In any case, you can update existing robots using the robot_update package.

    Best regards,

    Charlie

ADE uses the robot_* packages that are visible in IM. It will complain and fail to distribute if those packages are not in your local archive.

    Hi Keith,

The MSI installer is deprecated in ADE v1.22 in favor of a EXE. This allows us to more cleanly handle the necessary pre-requisites for the Robot.

Both the EXE and RPM robot packages are in the Internet archive. (robot_rpm and robot_exe).

    Hope this helps,

    Charlie
