rapid automation banner agent question

I am new to supporting applications manager, so please bear with me

When you setup a banner agent, there is a program default login and a jdbc default login

I understand that the jdbc login obviously connects to the database.

What is program default login?  Is it connecting as an operating system user or is it another database login or what?
What is it for?

The program default login is the db login that is used by the banner jobs initiated in appworx.  My banner jdbc connection login and program default login are actually using the same database userid and password.
