Important Changes In Automation Engine V12.2.2

By David Ainsworth posted 03-06-2019 12:30 PM

License Key Checks Removed

The requirement for a License Key based on customer contracted entitlement was removed from the products in V12.2.2.

This was for a number of reasons:

  • Multiple Customer requests
  • Customer survey feedback
  • Removal of a License Generation process which does not add any meaningful value for the customer or Broadcom
  • Removal of any risk of a customer outage due to a missing/expired license key

Telemetry functionality was added into the solution in V12.2.2

This enables information about usage to be sent to the Broadcom organisation if the customer agrees.

On first login to Client 0, you will be asked to Activate your product. Telemetry can be found in the documentation here Telemetry

The Site ID requested is available in any support ticket communication.

I notice Solaris is not listed for Automation Engine 12.2.

Is support for the Solaris SPARC platform for the Automation Engine now completely deprecated after v12.1.6?

May I, please have one more question?

Could you, please decifer the acronyms for me? What does PLA stand for?

Who are customers on a PLA which one's are  non-PLA customers?

Sorry if the question trivial, but I am truly lost... :-/

PS: We experienced some unusual behavior of the ONE installer resulting in failed installations on RHEL 7.5 recently.
Whom do I let know that the ./ needs to be run sa "bash" and that the uninstaller will not remove the automic-datastore user which leads to failed attempts to reinstall?

hi thanks for the info.

We tried to use the activation, but got no response from the gui.

The next time we login with client 0, the info for activation still pops up.

What will prevent unauthorized use if license is removed an the new feature does not work ?

Best Regards

There is no requirement for a license file any more in V12.2.2, including when using the One Installer.

There is no change to the customer contractual entitlement. Customers should still be aware of their entitlement and not exceed it.

Hi, thank you for this information.

May I trouble you for a couple of clarifications?

- does it mean I don't have to load the license file with v 12.2.2 into the AE database anymore?

- does it mean I will be able to run the OneInstaller without a license file?

- what will prevent unauthorized/unlicensed use by customers/partners?

Thanks a lot in advance!

A couple of clarifications
We didn't introduce a new licensing system, we just removed the old one. There are no longer any license checks in the Automic products so a license key is no longer required.
Telemetry is a completely separate topic. There is no link between the licensing removal and Telemetry.
Telemetry is required for customers on a PLA but optional for non-PLA customers.
For PLA customers, they can specify a proxy to connect to the internet or there is also a REST API to retrieve the data and send it manually.

Yes it is only for Telemetry.

The product will continue to work if you activate or not.

We will improve the message to make it clearer.

Hi thanks for the info.

What does product acivation mean ("On first login to Client 0, you will be asked to Activate your product. ")?

It's the usual way to activate a product or it's only for Telemtry?
