Rally Office Hours April 7, 2022 Recap

As a follow-up from our April 7, Rally Office Hours session, we’d like to share some highlights in addition to the questions that were asked, along with their respective answers. We briefly demo a helpful Rally Tip each week and call it the Learning Corner. This week, Heather Kanser demoed custom charts. A recording is available below, comment on this blog with other features you would like to see!

This week’s Learning Corner: Capacity Plan Enables the Use of Plan Progression

Thank you to all who joined us live. We appreciate your feedback and participation in the last session and are looking forward to our next one. If you were not able to attend, there is always an opportunity to ask questions here on the Rally Community discussion board and we'll do our best to answer.

Join us every Thursday, at 12 PM ET (register for upcoming sessions). We look forward to connecting with you!

April 7, Session Recap

Q: Is there an UNDO button in Rally? Mainly need it when I add details to features/ stories.

A: There isn't a rollback on a transaction and that can't change. Rally is a multi-tenant, multi-user environment and if a user is saving changes to an item there isn't a way to undo that save because other users might've already updated and saved their own changes since.

Q: Saved views on Custom Lists 2.0 aren’t working the same that they are on other pages?

A: We demonstrated during the session that Saved Views actually are working fine in Custom List 2.0 as they do in Work Views.

Q: How can I link a risk to multiple items? For example, to mitigate a risk, I need to execute  US 1 and US 2

A: You can use Custom List, use the Settings to select the 'Risk' object type, then you'll see all risk objects independently. We demonstrated it during the Q&A session.

Q: I know you probably hear this a lot, but most modern UI additions and updates do not give us the ability to query based on item hierarchy above one level (e.g., Parent, but not Parent.Parent.Parent.FormattedID = Blah).

A: You can use Custom List -> Settings -> Query and enter a valid Rally WSAPI query filter. This filter can use and navigate any of the fields available on the item that Custom List will query. You can create filters such as: (parent.parent.Name = "my name")  and so forth. This Query filter will constrain the results of Custom List . Users can make a number of copies or instances of Custom List constrained differently if wanted to create multiple such solutions.

Q: Is there any way to download the discussions text, not just the number of discussions, when pulling an iteration or task report?

A: Discussions are available for export via Rally Excel Add-In.  The type is called Conversation Post.
