Rally Office Hours March 31, 2022 Recap

As a follow-up from our March 31, Rally Office Hours session, we’d like to share some highlights in addition to the questions that were asked, along with their respective answers. We briefly demo a helpful Rally Tip each week and call it the Learning Corner. This week, Heather Kanser demoed custom charts. A recording is available below, comment on this blog with other features you would like to see!

This week’s Learning Corner: Custom Charts

Thank you to all who joined us live. We appreciate your feedback and participation in the last session and are looking forward to our next one. If you were not able to attend, there is always an opportunity to ask questions here on the Rally Community discussion board and we'll do our best to answer.

Join us every Thursday, at 12 PM ET (register for upcoming sessions). We look forward to connecting with you!

March 31, Session Recap

Q: Will the colors in custom charts correspond across custom apps?

A: No, that would have to be aligned manually, like within Excel...Excel doesn't "know" what colors mean, only the user/creator does.

Additional response from another Rally User: I was just going to add that I've done exactly that - taken the code from GitHub, and replaced the colors in that section with the color codes we want to use.  You can coordinate them by using the hex color code.

Q: In the custom Iteration Retro app, this doesn't work for our users...can we remove this from our subscription?

A:  There isn't a way remove one community app from a subscription. A sub-admin can decide to block all community apps, but not only one or a few.

One thing you technically can do is: Block the community apps, then import those community apps you'd like as Subscription Apps. This will give you (the sub-admins) full control over the apps allowed in your subscription. However, keep in mind, if there are many community apps you intend to permit then importing them all as subscription apps may be too much work only in order to exclude this one Iteration Retro app.

Q: Is anyone reviewing the Issues in the GitHub repos for our Custom Apps (Community Apps etc.)?

A: Community Apps are essentially provided As-Is. There is no formal support or bug fixes for Community Apps. This doesn't mean that on occasion such apps can't be fixed or enhanced, but as a policy they're not. Usually a Services engagement or working directly with your Solution Engineer will be the avenue to pursue a fix.

Q: Can we connect Microsoft Power BI to Rally?

A: Getting data is not a problem, utilizing the wasabi API.  This is our best solution currently.  We also have our TaskTop connector.

Additional Response from Another Rally User: Tasktop is low code/no code. We have recently implemented it with Rally and ServiceNow and I believe Power BI.

Q: How do you hide a field on a portfolio item?

A: You can set the visibility at the Workspace properties.

Q: Question regarding Custom List 2.0 Can we add the ability to group by milestones or parent?

A: Children are automatically linked under their parents. If you're interested in specific parents, you can simply filter for these parents and you'll get all their children.  Despite that it's not 'Group By', it will still result with same data.

Q: How do I  Bulk ReActivate Users?

A: Setup/Admin > Filter on Users > Bulk Edit.

Q: Can we disable the notification when users are disabled? Currently, the email notification prompts them to request to be added again.

A: You can do this in bulk via API or the Bulk User Permissions app (bulk actions.)

Q: Can we set the Planned start date & Planned end date to a Feature once it is in the release i.e. release start date & release end date?

A: Yes. The Planned Start Date and Planned End Date are editable for Features both before and after being scheduled into a Release.  The Actual Start Date and Actual End Date are not editable though.
