Rally Office Hours March 17, 2022 Recap

As a follow-up from our March 17, Rally Office Hours session, we’d like to share some highlights in addition to the questions that were asked, along with their respective answers. We briefly demo a helpful Rally Tip each week and call it the Learning Corner. This week, Heather Kanser showed how to eliminate the time stamp in Rally. A recording is available below, comment on this blog with other features you would like to see!

This week’s Learning Corner: Eliminating Timestamps

Thank you to all who joined us live. We appreciate your feedback and participation in the last session and are looking forward to our next one. If you were not able to attend, there is always an opportunity to ask questions here on the Rally Community discussion board and we'll do our best to answer.

March 17, Session Recap

Q: Have you ever thought about having a generic work item type that is not User Story...for all the stuff that's not a user story?

A: This is something that has come through from our customers a number of times. It is not something we are currently looking into - that said, we are always reviewing and refining what we want to work on, so it is something that could be considered in the future.

Q: Why is personalized navigation a separate feature in the user profile? Will it ever be a mainstream feature of the UX? A little history of this might be helpful.

A: Personalized Navigation was originally a feature implemented as part of our labs program, which brings more experimental (innovative) features to our customer base for their usage and feedback. When it was implemented, we had quite a bit of feedback asking for the ability for a user to access data a little easier and focus on a certain number of pages in the platform - as there are a lot of pages in Rally, and hence, a lot of different ways to do certain activities.

In terms of whether a labs feature becomes an actual feature - that is dependent on feedback and usage. Currently, while we have users using Personalized Navigation, we do not see a significant amount of usage of this feature such that we would consider this for inclusion in core Rally. A large reason behind this is that Personalized Navigation was created before we updated the Rally UI - so many of the considerations that were addressed by Personalized Navigation have been folded into the updated UI.

Q: I saw the new Custom List 2.0 App this morning. Is there any plan to have query functionality in the app settings at some point? One of the biggest reasons we use the Custom List is because we want to show artifacts filtered by attributes of a parent or grandparent, for example User Stories under a specific Epic (our second level portfolio item).  You can't do that with filters so we use queries.

A: We are planning 100% parity between Custom List 1.0 and 2.0. We ARE planning on having query functionality in CL 2.0; we are incrementally releasing this new app and asking for feedback along the way.
