Business: The district of Aargau is one of the strongest economic regions in Switzerland. An attractive economic policy makes the area an inviting location for more than 30,000 companies.

Challenge: The IT department wanted to introduce standard SLAs, reduce the number of legacy infrastructure monitoring tools and achieve better service quality and transparency with a unified monitoring solution.

Solution: The team selected a solution based on CA Unified Infrastructure Management that would integrate with existing tools. This enabled it to take advantage of existing synergies, protect investments and reduce operating and license costs.

Benefit: Thanks to CA Unified Infrastructure Management, the Aargau administration has been able to eliminate 85 percent of its previous IT monitoring tools. Users benefit from efficient, rapid troubleshooting, unified SLA metrics for applications and services and increased quality and transparency.

The IT department (ITAG) for the administrative district of Aargau has approximately 100 employees and is responsible for the management of IT. It sits in the Finance and Resources department. IT is divided into four sections. Application Management (AM) is responsible for the software lifecycle of applications, including specifi c technical and support applications. More than 60 applications are currently managed by the department, some of which are extremely complex. In order to improve the service, the team launched an application infrastructure monitoring initiative that could be extended to multiple service areas. Even before the start of the project it was clear that only a successful combination of standardised processes with a fl exible solution architecture and the support of the individual application management teams would guarantee its success. The project had a number of objectives, including increasing transparency of SLAs, providing real-time information about the status of applications and providing a unifi ed platform for users.
