URGENT!!!! - Most stable agent versions for Windows, SQL and IG FTP

Hello everyone,

 

Could someone please advise on the most stable Windows, SQL and IG FTP agent versions compatible with Automic Engine version 24.4.0?

 

We are still trying to identify the most stable agent versions for this AE base release. For example, we initially installed SQL Agent version 24.4.0, but due to a known issue, we had to upgrade it to **24.4.2+hf.3**.

 

However, we are still experiencing an issue where jobs fail silently and the corresponding reports are not generated.

 

Any guidance on the recommended agent versions (for Windows, SQL and IG FTP), known compatibility issues or troubleshooting steps would be appreciated.

# Windows Agent - recommend 24.4.4 HF2 or later: Two known issues in 24.4.0 line are resolved in this build:

* Agent fails to start under Java 24 (shows "Running" in Service Manager but "Inactive" in AWI). If you can't upgrade right away, running the agent on Java 17 works around it.
* File Events without a Login object fail with U00065004 after upgrading from a V21 agent to 24.4.x.

- One thing to be aware of: 24.4.4 HF2 itself introduces a separate issue where File Events using the "File size stable" check can get stuck in "Sleeping" status after an agent restart. There's no fix yet for that one - only a manual cancel/restart workaround - so it's worth testing if you rely on that File Event type.

- Also still open on the 24.4.x line: relative-path FT/JOBF destinations can resolve to C:\ instead of the agent's actual install drive. Using absolute paths in your JOBF definitions avoids it.

# SQL Agent - recommend 24.4.2+hf.3 or later . 24.4.0 and 24.4.1 have an issue where SQL_SET_STATEMENT_TERMINATOR can truncate a script early if the terminator character (e.g. @) also shows up elsewhere in the script (an email address, a DECLARE @Variable, etc.), producing an "Incorrect syntax" error. That's fixed at 24.4.2. 

# IG FTP Agent - recommend 24.2.0
This agent's versioning runs independently of the AE release number, so don't expect a 24.4.x build here specifically. Below 24.2.0, there's a known issue where FTP jobs can complete "Ended Normally" with no actual transfer performed, and the job report contains only a single line ("Started FTP job") with no error at all - which sounds like it could be exactly what you're seeing. The trigger is multiple FTP jobs running concurrently on the same agent. It's fixed at 24.2.0+.

Please can you also clarify the below details ?

 

 

Our current plan is to upgrade all Automic components from version 24.4.0 to 24.4.4 HF2, including:

 

Automation Engine

Automic Web Interface

Service Manager

Service Manager Dialog

Any other associated Automic components

 

 

Could you please confirm whether 24.4.4 HF2 is the correct and compatible target version for all the above components?

 

Could you also please confirm whether upgrading the Automic components from 24.4.0 to 24.4.4 HF2 is a prerequisite before upgrading the agents to 24.4.4?

 

 

Alternatively, can all Automic components remain on version 24.4.0 while the agents are upgraded to version 24.4.4?

 

 

This confirmation is particularly important because we faced many issues following a previous upgrade attempt (for agents) and had to revert the changes. We would therefore like to validate the exact target versions and compatibility across all components before proceeding again.

 

Your confirmation would be appreciated as we have almost 150+ agents running across different environments.

I suggest the following

• focus on the latest released Service Pack of the Offering Automic Automation which is v24.4.5 and do not mix versions of AWI, AE, Agent SQL, Windows OS-agent (applies to table 1 lines 1, 2,3 & 4 and table 2 lines 1 & 3)
• as RA Web Service REST is deprecated, you should use IG REST - latest version v24.2.1 (table 2 line 5)
• you should use the latest available version of RA Web Service SOAP which is v5.0.1 (table 2 line 4)

24.4.2 also had file stable issues, I am currently on 24.4.4HF1 and it doesn't have an issue with file stable in File events.

Thanks for the info on 24.4.4HF2 issues as I have hundreds of file events with file stable
