On May 18, Rally will add OAuth authentication for the MCP Server.
This gives you another way to connect supported AI tools and IDEs to Rally. OAuth will be available alongside the existing API key option.
What this means for you
You will have two authentication options:

OAuth authentication: A new login-based option that uses a modern, time-limited access flow.

API key authentication: The existing option, which will continue to be supported.
OAuth is not replacing API keys. If you already use the Rally MCP Server with an API key, your current setup will continue to work.
Why it's important

Flexible Security: You can use either API keys or OAuth, depending on what your organization and MCP client support.

Enterprise-Grade Governance: OAuth better supports organizations that use centralized identity provider authentication.

Reduced Credential Sprawl: OAuth helps avoid creating and sharing multiple long-lived static credentials.
What you need to do
Nothing is required right away. When setting up or reconnecting the Rally MCP Server after May 18, you may choose OAuth if your MCP client supports it.
