Are you planning to convert your Db2 catalog to Universal Table Spaces (UTS)? Make sure to take a quick preventive step first so your Log Analyzer for Db2 for z/OS (Log Analyzer) workflows keep running without disruptions.

    What's Changing

Function level 509 of IBM Db2 for z/OS 13 (Db2 V13M509) enables a process to convert legacy Db2 catalog and directory table spaces from deprecated non-UTS types to partition-by-growth universal table spaces (PBG UTS). This conversion relocates tables from a non-UTS table space to new UTS table spaces, one table per table space, and then removes the non-UTS table space.

How Does the Conversion Affect Log Analyzer

If you attempt to run Log Analyzer DDL Activity reports on a log range from before the UTS conversion took place, the job might fail with error message LAE0364E. If this happens, your requested report will not generate, and you will need to manually alter the Log Analyzer strategy job resume point.

    How To Prevent the Issue

Prevent this issue with this simple procedure before you start the Db2 catalog conversion:

    1. Set the DATA CAPTURE CHANGES parameter on Db2 catalog tables.

    2. Run Log Analyzer DDL Activity reports to cover the log range before the DATA CAPTURE CHANGES parameter was set.

    3. Execute your Db2 catalog conversion to UTS.

Performance Note: Watch Your Log Volume!

Activating DATA CAPTURE CHANGES forces Db2 to write full row images to your active logs. While this is necessary for Log Analyzer to bridge the conversion gap, it temporarily increases your active log volume.

To protect your system from unnecessary logging overhead, set DATA CAPTURE CHANGES only on the required tables and revert the tables back to DATA CAPTURE NONE as soon as the conversion finishes to restore normal logging volume.

For detailed, step-by-step instructions and the exact list of catalog tables involved, see the Operational Considerations section in Log Analyzer documentation.
