We'd like to share some important guidance around the Level Set activation process to help ensure smooth upgrades in your environment.
Test Before You Activate
When applying a Level Set PTF, thorough testing is strongly recommended before activation.
Once a Level Set is activated, you cannot use SMP/E to restore to a previous maintenance level. This is consistent with IBM's function level activation process.
For example:
- Your runtime library is updated to maintenance Level Set 20.0.03
- You activate 20.0.03
- That activation becomes permanent within SMP/E
What If You Encounter an Issue?
If you experience problems after activating a new Level Set, you can reactivate a previously activated Level Set (for example, 20.0.02).
In this case:
Xmanager returns to the 20.0.02 active level
- New features introduced in 20.0.03 are disabled
- However, the runtime load library remains at maintenance Level Set 20.0.03
Important: Maintenance Rollback Is Not Allowed
Rolling back the maintenance level itself (for example, attempting to return to 20.0.02 after 20.0.03 has been applied and activated) is not supported.
If a rollback is attempted, Xmanager will fail to restart and issue the following error:
PXM0804 CONNECT TO XMANID [nnnn] FAILED.
MAINTENANCE LSET 20.0.02 IS LESS THAN XMAN HIGH ACTV LSET 20.0.03
