                     Connect and CPU Monitoring

    LU13453 – OpenTelemetry Metrics: z/OS Connect and CPU Monitoring

    zIRIS OpenTelemetry (OTel) Metrics provide customers with information about mainframe environments and/or resources that impact the performance of business applications and are useful during root-cause analysis. z/IRIS OTel metrics can be filtered by z/OS LPAR, Sysplex or Subsystem name.

    To understand the schemas for each of the OTel metrics created by z/IRIS as well as their relevant use case see the WatchTower Platform - z/IRIS documentation.

    z/OS Connect OTel Metrics

    Users will be able to identify the overall health and activity of IBM z/OS Connect servers as well as the REST API requests they host. This information provides additional insight into the z/OS Connect environments that support business applications in addition to the z/OS Connect traces created by z/IRIS to deliver holistic analysis capabilities that help customers reduce mean-time-to-restore and effectively increase application availability.

    CPU OTel Metrics

    Users will be able to identify the overall utilization and contention of processors (General Processors and zIIP Engines). This information provides users with the ability to understand the available capacity of the mainframe environment, useful for example when business application requests processed on mainframe report increased latency, timeouts and other internal server errors.
