As a TPX administrator, you want a simpler and quicker way to define your virtual terminals. Defining them as static terminals in the VTAM node is labor-intensive. Using the batch models requires running a batch job whenever you want to make a change to regenerate the static terminals.

TPX Session Management 5.5 has a new dynamic feature that simplifies the allocation process. You insert model statements directly within the VTAM node. Every time TPX starts up, it processes the statements and creates a list of virtual terminal definitions above the bar. The virtual terminals are allocated on demand when a user signs on, which frees up storage at startup. If you change or add model statements, TPX picks up the changes automatically the next time it starts. You can also use a single VTAM node for multiple TPX instances, simplifying the process even further.

For more information about setting up dynamic virtual terminals at your site, see Define the TPX VTAM Node and Define APPL Statements Dynamically.
