Keeping a single UVMS On-Premise to manage DUAS in the cloud will require opening TCP/IP ports to access it; the same applies to UVC.
By deploying a UVMS Subordinate in the cloud to manage DUAS in the cloud, you limit TCP/IP traffic and also provide an entry point for UVC in the cloud.
Regarding cloud tools, which almost all operate using REST APIs, you can use the Uproc Web Services Multi-Steps object to build a single process for interacting with a tool, which can then be used in your processing chains just like any other job. This can be done from a DUAS in the cloud or on-premises.

If no desire to use a VM and the individual calls are a bit clunky any other ways (other that have cloud provider run processes). Think asking if DUAS can integrate with cloud directly but sounds like a stretch at least?

Take the UVMS and Univiewer on the core network would need to get access to the cloud VM in order to control the DUAS node there? That would allow dependencies etc.
Are there any security considerations specific for DUAS in the cloud that have been come across other than forewalls?

Of course, you can continue to use Dollar Universe to automate your cloud environment and using the same kit than on-premise.
You can either run Dollar Universe on the cloud virtual machine hosting your application, just as you would on-premise, or use the Dollar Universe Web Services Manager to interact with remote applications in the cloud or in SaaS.
