About API Gateway License limitations

Hi ALL,

One of our customers asked a question, so could you please explain the limitations of APIGateway? The KB article with ID 192346 states, "The limit is 8 cores per instance; any number exceeding that is rounded up, and there is no memory limit."

However, the Layer7 API Management SPD May 2026.pdf appears to state that "the limit per instance is a maximum of 6 cores and 8 GB of memory."
Which of these is correct?

As far as I know, the correct number is 8 as stated in the public facing documentation, I am not familiar with the SPD your reference.  This is not a technical limit, its just the point where a customer must allocate two licenses to a node.  NOTE: To maximize performance, we generally recommend running multiple nodes rather than exceeding 8 cores on a single node.

All that said, this is a licensing question and I am not qualified to speak to the terms of individual contracts or how reseller licenses function.  Few who monitor this site are, which is why I suspect this is why your previous query regarding transitional licenses remains unanswered.   For reseller business/licensing questions, I recommend reaching out through your reseller business contacts.

Hello Junya,

There should be no restriction changes in the latest bundle SPD. It has long restricted virtual appliance and software gateways to 8 CPU with no memory limit and container gateways to 6 CPU and 8 GB memory per instance allocation. The bundle SKU allows one virtual appliance or software gateway instance per license, or three container gateway instances per license.
