Tech Tip from Pat O'Brien, Principal Support Engineer for January 18, 2017

Take a look the new Datacom utility DBCGSPR available with Datacom 15.0 via PTF RO91393 and 15.1 via PTF RO91394.

DBCGSPR can ‘decode’ a number of Datacom, DBC, and Ideal CUSLIB macros.

DBCGSPR is fully documented in CA Datacom® Core - 15.1 section

“Generating Source Members from CUSLIB Content"

"...The DBCGSPR utility reads a CUSLIB concatenation and generates source macros with all the parameters specified to assemble to create a new CUSLIB.  This utility is intended to facilitate upgrading from one release of CA Datacom® to a newer release. The messages that are generated range from DB30201I to DB30299I. …”

    Pat,

I know that I have wished for this function, since 1987, when I first became a Datacom DBA and our previous DBA  had quit and security had deleted all of her libraries.

    Thank you for this one!!!!!!!

    Pat,

I agree that this will be a great tool when you enter a shop where there have been many chefs in the kitchen each having their own way of making changes or ideas on how key values should be established and yet leave poor or no documentation for their reasoning for a given change or the location of where that source change was made from.  This will definitely be a great tool for the CA Support Techs to have access to in assisting a novice or backup DBA whenever a problem arises.  This will reduce the need for producing a dump just so a given CUSLIB member can be located and manually decoded by Support.  This is a win-win tool for all.   Thank you very much.

    Thanks Bob and Bill!

We should highlight that the //CUSLIB DD data set can be any prior release's CUSLIB. So, in preparation for your MUF upgrade, you just need Datacom 15.1 + RO91394 (or 15.0 + RO91393) software installed in order to run DBCGSPR utility against any prior CUSLIB.

DBCGSPR is valuable for our sites that have multiple MUFs at different levels of Datacom software including CA Datacom/AD.

Refer to the documentation for the lengthy list of CUSLIB modules that can be 'decoded' by DBCGSPR.
