We downloaded the software Nov 1 2008 - we were fully in production
April
19 2009
I will try to go back thru my notes and get a more detailed timeline
from what I have read - a migration from 16 to 17 is VERY painless -
from
15 to 17 requires a bit more work (because of the things you would have
been bitten by had you gone to 16 first ...)

How long is everyone taking to install 17.0? I'm talking about from the
day you download it from CA to the day you are 100% running in
production. The site I support is upgrading from 16.0 SP7 to 17.0 SP1.

how to get bookmanager files from PC to MF en masse' ?
"i have struggled trying to find an elegant procedure to get my R170 SP1
bookmanager format doc from the pc to the MF
after unzipping the bookmanager file
I get into interractive FTP pointing to the MF
i issue MPUT *.BOO (with some parameters i do not remember now) to get
them all up to the MF
but not in the correct blksize
seeing what the MPUT names them on the MF side, i delete the files and
re-created them with the proper recfm lrecl blksize and reissue the FTP
MPUT command
and i gete them all where I can use them
is there a better way anyone has developed??
i know this is somewhat moot - becuase bookmanager is going away but i
would be interested in what others do ...

"True.
However with z/OS 3rd party unzip tools are available as well as the
supplied z/os unix tar process.
You can also ftp multiples files, via one, using dfdss and sending the
single backup image.
I thought CA also sent the bookmgr formatted files on the logical install
tape.

i have struggled trying to find an elegant procedure to get my R170 SP1
bookmanager format doc from the pc to the MF
after unzipping the bookmanager file
I get into interractive FTP pointing to the MF
i issue MPUT *.BOO (with some parameters i do not remember now) to get
them all up to the MF
but not in the correct blksize
seeing what the MPUT names them on the MF side, i delete the files and
re-created them with the proper recfm lrecl blksize and reissue the FTP
MPUT command
and i gete them all where I can use them
is there a better way anyone has developed??
i know this is somewhat moot - becuase bookmanager is going away but i
would be interested in what others do ...
thanks,

ADS Compile problem
"One of my clients has an interesting problem. They're on R17, SP1 and =
having a problem with symbol tables. The dialog in question calls a =
cobol program multiple times, each time passing data to update a table. =
For example purposes, I call the calls A, B and C. When they have =
symbol tables turned on the dialog works correctly, but when they have =
symbol tables turned off they only get the data from call b and c.

I know there is an apar out for ADS nested ifs, but the problem =
description seems to be the opposite of what we're seeing. Any ideas?

Re: ADS Compile problem
"Bob - have the client put a Cobol DISPLAY verb as the first statement in th=
e Procedure Division - including any variables that would help to identify =
if the processing is for CALL A or B or C - if you are not seeing all 3 in =
the DC Log then you know the problem is in the ADS dialog for sure - and no=
t a logic problem in the Cobol that sometimes it is not applying the update=
!
Also - run the ADS with TRACE=3DCTL on the application initiating statement=
- so should see all the ""ADS Control"" commands logged to DC Log - this may=
help to shed light on what is happening when symbol tables are ON and OFF.=
For example - at Enter Next Task Code: ads-task-code TRACE=3DCTL, or ADS a=
ds-task-code TRACE=3DCTL, or variation on this theme.
