Re:A TCP/IP Question or Two

I would like to pose a question to those who are working with the IDMS
    TCP/IP feature.

In looking at the IDMS literature, it appears that implementation of the
TCP/IP feature should be fairly straightforward.

We all know that documentation does not lie (but it doesn't always tell the
    whole truth either). :-)

I wonder then, are there any ""gotchas"" to be aware of as we start down
    this path ?

In addition, if/when we get to implementation, how is the reliability
and stability of this access ?

Let's call the owner record FREDPTR and the member records FREDCASE. We
want to erase all the FREDCASE instances but think it would be faster to
Init FREDCASE-AREA and then fix the pointers in the FREDPTR instances
with a restructure. The manuals don't provide such an example, however.
An old Listserve message suggests something like this would work. Would
    it? Thanks.

    ...

    IDMSRSTT RECNAME=FREDPTR

    IDMSRSTT SETPTR=(1,1)

    IDMSRSTT SETPTR=(*,2,FREDPTR-FREDCASE) RE-INIT NEXT POINTER

    IDMSRSTT SETPTR=(*,3,FREDPTR-FREDCASE) RE-INIT PRIOR POINTER

    IDMSRSTT SETPTR=(4,4)

    IDMSRSTT SETPTR=(5,5)

    ...

You even don't have to mention the set-names.
