  • 1.  Cannot create a Project attribute. Why?

    Hi everybody.

We are facing a rare problem in a brand new installation of CA PPM 15.3 Patch 1

After validating that everything is ok with CA PPM, New UX, Jaspersoft, DWH and PMO Accelerator (csk), we tried to customize the Project object, but got the following error: ERROR Unable to communicate to the PPM server. Please try again and if problem persists contact your system administrator.

The error occurs right after pressing the 'New' button. We never get to see the creation form.

Also, it shows up when pressing the 'Filter' button in the same page.

The errors in the app-calog are as follows:

    Pressing the 'New' button:

    ERROR 2018-01-24 14:44:56,077 [http-nio-80-exec-16] xbl.ODFObjectQueryHandler (clarity:admin:5140020__6AE013ED-B49D-47DF-B0A3-B12D810A21BE:odf.newObjectDefinitionAttribute) ODF could not retrieve object:

    Pressing the 'Filter' button:

    ERROR 2018-01-24 14:46:30,338 [http-nio-80-exec-17] xbl.ODFObjectQueryHandler (clarity:admin:5140020__6AE013ED-B49D-47DF-B0A3-B12D810A21BE:odf.objectAttributes) ODF could not retrieve object:
    ERROR 2018-01-24 14:46:30,417 [http-nio-80-exec-13] xbl.ODFObjectQueryHandler (clarity:admin:5140020__6AE013ED-B49D-47DF-B0A3-B12D810A21BE:odf.objectAttributes) ODF could not retrieve object:

    Additional information:

    • The error doesn't occur when pressing the 'Show All' button in the same page.

    • So far, this only happens with the Project object. We can properly create attributes in other objects (Idea, Investment, Application).

    • The CA PPM version is:

    • We can create and edit project instances without errors
    • We can run Jaspersoft reports without errors
    • We can run the Datamart Data Warehouse jobs without errors

First time I see something like this.

    I would appreciate your help.

I understand that you are having issues when creating attributes on the project object.

Other objects seem to be Ok

Can you check if there is any object lock on the prlock table?

I wonder if the object itself is corrupted?

Is there any other environment you have where the problem does not occur?

We could also try to XOG out the project object from a working environment and XOG it on the broken one?

You might want to raise an issue with CA support so this can be investigated

Can you check if there is any object lock on the prlock table?

A: There is no record in the PRLOCK table. Actually, if I open and write directly the URL of the Create Attribute page, it allows to create new attributes, so it doesn't seems to be a database problem.

I wonder if the object itself is corrupted?

A: Maybe, but no clue in which installation step could this happened, since its a clean fresh instance. suspect that the Button "New" may be damaged.

Is there any other environment you have where the problem does not occur?

A: Not in this company. There is an old CA PPM, but different release, so cannot make the comparison.

We could also try to XOG out the project object from a working environment and XOG it on the broken one?

A: That sounds risky, if we have the chance we will try it. I suspect that the Button "New" may be damaged.

You might want to raise an issue with CA support so this can be investigated

    A: We did it already.

Hello, We also encountered the same error while performing usual operations in 15.2 Patch 3.
