Being forward looking - looks like I need to start building some new skills. For Tableau, what are the tools and what is a good plan? I've found free training videos on the Tableau website. What else?

Tableau Part 1 - Getting Started
So there's two main tools for tableau, desktop and server. You need both for a proper enterprise solution.
You'll also need a presentation layer, ether connecting directly or embedding via the JS api.
Example set up
Security layer - allows external access for authenticated users
Embeded tableau via JS API
Datasource: ca ppm warehouse, extracted into tableau db for performance
I suggest just having a go at creating a workbook as per the getting started blog.
Once you've done that, get to grips with the tool with some real life data and business needs.
