DX Unified Infrastructure Management

  • 1.  Can We Run UIM Taking Advantage of Existing Servers In Place? (Sql DB, Spectrum, etc)

Is anyone using the Unified Infrastructure Management probes and integrating them with Spectrum and an existing Sql Database (housing other CA application databases)?  If so; is the integration working well?  Or to properly implement the UIM environment; is it required to have a separate server for each app (Infrastructure Mgr; Portal and DB Server?

We would like to take advantage of the database monitoring capabilities; but at this time don't have additional servers to setup a UIM Infrastructure Mgr / Admin Console and UM Portal and DB Server.

So, we would like to use an existing Sql DB instance; have the traps flow to Spectrum and then leverage SOI for alert notification.

    Thanks.

You shall have UIM components installed in the same box (provided system resources could cope up for all the components to work - if not you would end up performance problems)

You can use the same database server that hosts other APPS as UIM database would be a seperate instance in the database server.

Not recommended to install UIM in the same machine that runs Spectrum/SOI/any other app. If you have any specific questions let us know.

    Lakshmi,

Thanks for your response.  We are trying to determine if we can do a proof of concept (POC) with existing servers; or have to create a new environment.  I am guessing when we move towards a production implementation; the server requirements listed will be the best way to go.  We will probably move forward with the POC using an existing Sql DB; but install the manager on a server other than our SOI server.

As we get closer to implementation; we will be ask more specific questions.  Thanks for the link to the document.

    Cheers,
