Question on default zoning.

  • 1.  Question on default zoning.

    Posted 12-18-2013 12:43 AM

    In BCFA, it is stated that the defzone setting is NOT in effect when a user-specified zone configuration is enabled.

    Does it mean that when there is a user zoneset existed and enabled, the defzone would allow all devices that are not zoned with anything to communicate with each other? Or it will block all communication betweeen the unzoned devices?

    I have checked FC-GS, which also did not give a clarified answer. It only states that

    a) Any Nx_Port that is not a member of any zone in the active Zone Set shall be a member of the
    Default Zone;
    b) The Fabric may not allow members of the Default Zone to interact with any other members in
    the Default Zone;

    c) The Fabric shall not allow the members of the Default Zone to interact with members of any
    other zone; and
    d) No mechanisms or methods shall explicitly control Default Zone resources (e.g., members).

    Hi,

    In response to your questions:

    In BCFA, it is stated that the defzone setting is NOT in effect when a user-specified zone configuration is enabled.

    Does it mean that when there is a user zoneset existed and enabled, the defzone would allow all devices that are not zoned with anything to communicate with each other?

    Nope, when a zoneset is active, only the members of each zone can communicate with each other.

    Or it will block all communication betweeen the unzoned devices?

    Devices that aren't in a zone are isolated.

    Kind regards,

    Felipon

    The normal cfg and defzone are mutually exclusive. Only one is active at the time. If you disable the normal zone configuration then the defzone will become active. Depending on allaccess/noaccess all  or no devices will be able to access eachother respectively.

    Cheers,
