EX port configuration to McData 4500

  • 1.  EX port configuration to McData 4500

    Posted 06-25-2013 01:49 AM

    Hello,

I'm looking to connect my 6510 to a Sphereon 4500 running in Open Fabric Mode 1.0.

    My 6510 base switch has:

    Domain ID = 115

    Fabric ID = 69

    The 4500 has:

    Domain ID = 1

    Fabric ID = ??????

When I run the portcfgexport command what should I put for the -f parameter?

    1. I assume the -f parameter refers to the fabric ID of the 4500?

    2. Looking at the 4500 config I don't see a fabric ID. Should I see one?

    Thanks in advance.

    Glenn

-f = Fabric ID you assign as EX_Port to McDATA Port.

However, I'm not sure if IR from 6510 as EX Port configuration can work with McDATA.

what is the EOS Release installed in 4500 ?

    4500 is at Firmware Version:       07.01.00 5

I've seen that this is not supported but I thought I'd give it a try.

This is a test unit. The customer has 07.01.00 5 and cannot upgrade. I'm testing to see if we can communicate so that I can look at migrating from 4500s to 6510s.

    indeed, 7.x is very old.

You must upgrade to 9.9.5 or higher

what is the reason you cannot upgrade to a new release ?

As they are putting in new infrastructure (6510s) they do not have the time.

As this is a test McData I could upgrade this to 9.9.5+.

    Could I then connect:

    6510 EX-prt -->4500 9.9.5 E port --> 4500 7.x E port.

What we're trying to prove is that connecting via an EX port does NOT merge config data.

I know the manuals say the configs won't be merged but I have to prove this to the customer.
