This video shows how to create a virtual machine in VirtualBox that meets the Brocade SDN Controller requirements.

VirtualBox VM System Requirements For BVC 1.1.1 (from Brocade SDN Controller 1.1.1 Quick Start):

    • Ubuntu 14.04
    • Minimum 6 GB RAM
    • Minimum 32 GB free disk space

Hi there. This video is going to teach you how to actually build a virtualbox virtual machine that will run the BVC 1.1.1.

    0:00:10.400,0:00:13.040
The first thing we need is Ubuntu 14.04.

    0:00:13.500,0:00:19.820
Here we go and get the Ubuntu Desktop it needs to be the 64 bit and we will go ahead and download it.

    0:00:19.820,0:00:24.780
I have sped up this download it takes quite a bit of time, so it will skip ahead here.

    0:00:25.760,0:00:28.640
And sure enough there we have the download.

    0:00:29.975,0:00:30.475
We are going to create a new machine.

    0:00:30.475,0:00:34.795
Now with the download, what we are going to do is start VirtualBox

    0:00:34.795,0:00:35.295
    Give it a name.

    0:00:36.620,0:00:37.820
    Pick Linux 64 bit.

    0:00:37.820,0:00:39.118
Pick the minimum memory size of 6 gig.

    0:00:41.715,0:00:46.275
Then we create a disk which is set to the minimum size of 32 gigabytes.

    0:00:46.275,0:00:48.590
And now that it is created we going to set some settings.

    0:00:49.293,0:00:53.453
The first one is to set the processors to 4 which is the minimum.

    0:00:55.280,0:01:02.280
And then we are going to add a DVD drive to the ISO that we downloaded which is Ubuntu. So that it will begin to install.

    0:01:06.880,0:01:13.880
Okay, so now when we start that machine the first thing it does is read off that Ubuntu ISO and in fact begin to install Ubuntu.

    0:01:13.900,0:01:18.700
I have sped this up significantly. You can see us beginning the install.

    0:01:22.020,0:01:22.980
    Pick install.

    0:01:22.980,0:01:23.940
    Pick download updates while installing.

    0:01:23.940,0:01:26.224
We say to erase the disk and then install.

    0:01:26.224,0:01:27.446
    We pick our time zone.

    0:01:27.446,0:01:28.404
    We pick our language.

    0:01:29.209,0:01:34.729
We enter a name and password. Remember your password. We say login automatically.

    0:01:34.729,0:01:37.968
So we don't have to remember the password all the time, but you will need it.

    0:01:39.374,0:01:44.334
Then it begins copying the files, which, again, I have sped up enormously.

    0:01:44.334,0:01:50.300
So when it is done copying the files and installing them it will tell us that it is done and to reboot.

    0:01:50.300,0:01:50.800
In this case we have actually just stopped it.

    0:01:53.260,0:02:00.260
At this point you have VirtualBox and Ubuntu 14.04 and all the machine requirements. I am starting the machine here.

    0:02:00.260,0:02:05.199
These two steps are not strictly required but they will make your life significantly easier.

    0:02:05.868,0:02:12.868
The first is to install VirtualBox Guest User Additions. That will allow the window to be grown and shrunk.

    0:02:14.193,0:02:16.273
So here we are installing them.

    0:02:17.120,0:02:19.120
We have to enter our password.

    0:02:25.374,0:02:30.974
This takes a little bit longer, I sped it up. But, when it is done, it will let you know.

    0:02:30.974,0:02:32.034
When it is done we go ahead shutdown and select restart.

    0:02:36.453,0:02:42.293
As we restart you will see the window is actually going to allow us to grow it much bigger.

    0:02:42.293,0:02:44.960
There. It is already bigger and then I make it full screen.

    0:02:44.960,0:02:48.334
You cannot do that without the VirtualBox User Additions.

    0:02:48.334,0:02:54.454
The next thing I suggest you do is to find the terminal and put it the quick bar on the left side.

    0:02:59.620,0:03:06.500
That is because you will be doing a lot of terminal work and having that handy will make your life easier.

    0:03:08.160,0:03:15.160
Okay so your are all set. You have a machine that you can now go install BVC. Click the link above and we will take you back to the video where we teach you how to install BVC.
