Image attachments still broken in migrated discussion threads

  • 1.  Image attachments still broken in migrated discussion threads

    Posted Oct 25, 2019 08:13 AM
I see that images are still not showing up in discussion threads migrated from the CA Communities.

    Here is one example.

    Thread
Using Net Areas to segregate CP connections by type

    Image URL
    http://higherlogicdownload.s3.amazonaws.com/BROADCOM/JiveInlineImages/eb3cff2ff5344541882efa0cb56cfa56_AWA+inter-process+communication+with+net+areas.png

The problem appears to be that S3 content is blocked by our web filter.

Images attached to new threads and comments are not affected by this problem.

Is there a fix in the works? I doubt very much that I will be able to get an exception to the web filter just for this.

@Michael A. Lowry  -   Apologies for the late reply on this one.   We were trying to figure out if more than one image was affected during the migration.   The vendor is still looking into the migration folder.   I've restored this image on the thread in question.     Cheers ~jm

    @Jason McClellan

That image currently shows up for me, and IIRC it also used to in the past. @Michael A. Lowry was saying that it's not showing up for him, because his company blocks Amazon S3 for the browser.

That's not to say that there are no broken images. For instance, this idea has an image in the comments that's now gone without a trace:

    https://community.broadcom.com/participate/ideation-home/viewidea?IdeationKey=34fc505b-477b-4ed2-a50a-242078f44fc3

(Not the most profound image, but it serves as an example here).

Also, it took me ten minutes to find the idea.

I'm afraid the ideation search partly hangs again today, required repeat logins between two searches in the seemingly same session, the dropdowns sometimes stop functioning after a search has been conducted, and the products in ideation are still duplicated. I tried to bring the later to attention already last week (albeit admittedly in some thread; I refuse to report such issues via support portal because trying to help CA/Broadcom via ticket only ever ends in frustration on my part).

    Cheers,
    Carsten

    Hi,

I opened two tickets last week regarding "Ideation: A few categories are doubled" (20092896) and "Ideation: Search does not work as expected" (20092903).

And guess what? The support employee now tries to close both tickets with reference to this forum. I have spoken out against closing the ticket, because neither a workaround nor a permanent solution was offered to me. So I can confirm @Carsten Schmitz's concern that the ticket opening ends in frustration.

So I can confirm @Carsten Schmitz's concern that the ticket opening ends in frustration.

72.6% of survey respondents tend to agree *)

*) based on a recent survey conducted by an independent users group association among 151 participants, in which participants answered "yes" or "mostly yes" to "I am frequently under the impression that Automic Support could do more to understand my requests."

Let's keep up hope this can eventually improve back to suitable levels.

@Tim Quakulinsky  Apologies for the confusion. If you have an issue post it in the WaterCooler and one of the Community Manager or myself will respond.  I handle all incoming support tickets for community and they are in ServiceNow starting with INC00 - who did you talk to?    On the Ideation Tool - we have a new version being released in Q4 which should improve the tool.    On the duplicate categories,  as soon as team saw that I opened a ticket with the vendor to fix the data issue.   In either case, whoever had the case should of routed it to me.   Thx ~jm

I just stumbled over our open ticket regarding the search in Ideation not working as expected: 20092903

I asked Heena to forward the ticket to @Jason McClellan, but received the following answer on 2020-05-31:
Thank you for the response. We won't be able to transfer this ticket to Jason as we belong to Customer Care Team. However, I will follow up with Jason and get back to you with an update .

    Hi @Jason McClellan,

you wrote 4 months ago: "We were trying to figure out if more than one image was affected during the migration. The vendor is still looking into the migration folder."

I have just read this and now I have the following questions and remarks:
    • Have you figured it out yet? We customers can at least say that more than one image is affected.
    • Why does the provider look in the migration folder? There are enough tools that can check a website for missing images or broken links.
    • Do you really want us customers to tell you every single page that is missing an image? This makes us customers especially happy when other people involved say that everything is fine there. I hate to repeat myself, but: There are enough tools that can check a website for missing images or broken links.
    • What does the provider do against this error?

    Regards,

    Tim

Edit:  I see the image you are talking about now - sorry, I was looking at the page and the image you are referring to is almost at the end.  It's an old embedded jive servlet link.   I can see if I have the image in a bu file but if not it is not restorable.

Is only one image broken or all of the images?    If all of the images are broken you might be blocking AWS on your corporate firewall.   ~jm

The image referenced is not part of the migrated content - it is links to another source  <img alt="" src="https://us.v-cdn.net/5019921/uploads/editor/6n/7e3pzj9bmfbb.png">.    When we ran the Jive Servlet script on the content it fixed a lot of images.  I do not recognize this CDN URL.   ~jm

v-cdn.net is owned by Vanilla Forums of Quebec, Canada. It was a file storage for Vanilla Forums, which is what CA used (I think) before their migration to Jive.

In here there's actually images hosted on

    src="https://higherlogicdownload.s3.amazonaws.com/BROADCOM/JiveInlineImages

that have a HTML title tag (still) pointing to

    Image: <a href="https://us.v-cdn.net/5019921/uploads

so it would appear at some time, some script was run to update the v-cdn.net links to Higher Logic storage, but it probably didn't consider ideation.

@Carsten Schmitz @Michael A. Lowry -  when we encounter previous migration data that was not cleaned up after a 2nd migration it compounds all issues and actually finding the images becomes impossible.    The code from vanilla seems straightforward copying over from the CDN so this might have been a script to fix all the old platform links.   Either it didn't happen or it didn't capture all links which is a possible scenario.

I've been asking for years and Lithium had just rolled out this self serve feature based on GDPR issues.  When there is a migration coming up,  the outgoing platform should flag all users internally and pack all contributions into zip files as a useful backup.   This would compact all files, images, and comments, blogs, and posts into a file into a cold storage file.    Higher Logic has a similar feature that is run by an Administrator again for GDRP.
