'Requested URL cannot be found' error when clicking links in discussion threads

    Posted Feb 05, 2020 10:46 AM

I tried to reply to Tim's reply in the thread Descriptions of OVD_Execute and OVD_VNameResult interchanged. When I clicked the Reply button, the following error appeared:

     Requested URL cannot be found

We are sorry, but the page you are looking for cannot be found. The page has either been removed, renamed or is temporarily unavailable.

    404 Not Found

The same error appeared when I clicked the Sign In link in the upper right corner.

I just replied as a test and it worked fine.   It sounds like your post and sign in issue might have coincided with a rolling restart where you were trying to post to a NODE in the system that was mid-restart.    Let me know if you see this issue again.    I haven't heard from anyone else internally or externally who had this issue.

Do you happen to know time and date for the post attempt or sign in attempt?

It happened one or two minutes before I posted the thread.

This morning I got this error when logging in:
Sorry, an unexpected error has occurred.
We have logged this issue. If the problem persists, please contact us and provide the following error log key: 23fb2488-f2af-4eb7-9e8d-b83c1a758308

I've seen this error the past 2 days, when clicking the Sign In button in the upper right corner of the page. This happens when returning to a discussion thread in a browser window open since the previous day.

The most recent instance of this error occurred about 5 minutes ago.

    Requested URL cannot be found

Sounds like your logged-in session was timed out so when you finally clicked "Reply" there was a cookie mismatch showing the error.    The thread could of been changed or refreshed by the system and you were seeing an old version.   I've seen the same thing when moving from office LAN to home office VPN or using a stale browser.

Yup. Sounds like you understand the problem. Most systems can handle this sort of thing gracefully.

I now know how to reproduce the problem.

    1. Post a reply to a discussion thread. The URL of the page to which you are redirected will include this text at the end:
      %26SuccessMsg%3dThank%2byou%2bfor%2bsubmitting%2byour%2bmessage.
    2. Wait for the login session to time out.
    3. Refresh the page. The Sign In button should appear in the upper right corner.
    4. Click the Sign In button. The problem will occur.

At this point, if you remove the success message text from the URL and load the page again, the Sign In button will work correctly.

    Works
    https://community.broadcom.com/communities/community-home/digestviewer/viewthread?GroupId=1195&MessageKey=7d0af670-87b1-4c98-b676-838807635466&CommunityKey=f92efc9f-0875-4c00-ad19-f20b3185f059&tab=digestviewer&ReturnUrl=%2fcommunities%2fcommunity-home%2fdigestviewer%3fcommunitykey%3df92efc9f-0875-4c00-ad19-f20b3185f059%26tab%3ddigestviewer

    Does not work
    https://community.broadcom.com/communities/community-home/digestviewer/viewthread?GroupId=1195&MessageKey=7d0af670-87b1-4c98-b676-838807635466&CommunityKey=f92efc9f-0875-4c00-ad19-f20b3185f059&tab=digestviewer&ReturnUrl=%2fcommunities%2fcommunity-home%2fdigestviewer%3fcommunitykey%3df92efc9f-0875-4c00-ad19-f20b3185f059%26tab%3ddigestviewer%26SuccessMsg%3dThank%2byou%2bfor%2bsubmitting%2byour%2bmessage.

In my view, the URL is the wrong place to put things like this.

Firefox on windows. You should be able to see this in the user agent string associated with my connections.

Here is another example of a problematic URL, returned after posting a new discussion thread:

    This bug persists today.

Links containing the SuccessMsg parameter (as well as other similar message parameters) do not work after the session expires.

    Will this bug be fixed?

@Michael A. Lowry  - I received a note on the list submitted and a patch has been rolled out to the community.

    Hi Jason,

Our developers released an update to fix for the issue regarding the ErrorMsg/SuccessMsg should not be exposed as a query parameter for ViewThread group control.

Once again we appreciate your patience while we attempted to find and implement a resolution for this issue.

Please let us know if you have any questions or if you encounter any further issues related to this.
