FieldPack - CPU Counter for Java Agents

By Haruhiko Davis posted Apr 02, 2015 03:52 PM

I had previously posted an Idea about needing an effective way for administrators to get CPU counts from their environment.

Most would run the License Report in the Supportability module and get those. This is well and fine, but what if in your environment you chose to disable aggregate CPU metrics?

The solution was so simple, I don't know why I didn't bother to think about it sooner.

I wrote this agent extension to provide a new metric called "CPU:Total Available Processors". All you need to do update the metric grouping used by the license report and you're back in business.

Here is what it looks like on my test environment:

I'll post the extension in the Documents area; look for it using the tag "fieldpack".

I'm looking for comments regarding the metric name and location.

  • Does it make sense to display it under "CPU" or should it be moved to "Agent Stats|Resources"?
  • Is the metric name okay?

Please feel free to open a discussion over at CA Developer APM.

Thanks and Happy Coding!
