The Next Era of CloudHealth Reporting: Unveiling Our Newly Enhanced Reporting Experience

About the Author: Cathal Cleary - Product Leader | CloudHealth, Governing Board | FinOps Foundation

Today marks a big moment for the new CloudHealth experience. We are excited to announce significant enhancements to the core reporting capabilities of the platform. This new framework represents an explainable and predictable reporting model that simplifies the user experience. It is ready for the scale of data that the AI era is bringing.

Here is everything you need to know about what is waiting for you in the new experience.

Powerful New Reporting Capabilities

To manage expanding IT spend data without overwhelming FinOps users, CloudHealth introduced Datasets. These serve as a powerful foundation for reporting, allowing FinOps analysts to collect, normalize, and curate data. For instance, merging public, private, and AI datasets creates a comprehensive TCO view. By removing irrelevant columns, analysts provide lines of business with standardized datasets for consistent, business-wide spend comparisons.

Crafting reports from custom datasets has never been more intuitive. Simply select your desired dataset, then define the specific columns to serve as your metrics—your measures—and those that will act as dimensions for grouping or filtering your information. Once you save and distribute these reports across your entire organization, you will have established a unified, standard view for every line of business.

For those seeking a more straightforward approach, our standard reports provide significant value out-of-the-box. You can easily leverage these pre-created views as a foundation, applying custom filters or unique dimensions to tailor the data before saving, ensuring a seamless reporting experience with minimal effort.

Graphical views of data are powerful, but they don’t always tell the entire story. That’s where the CloudHealth table view comes in handy. You can choose to have the table match the chart to deep dive graphical data, or you can show multiple columns together at once to compliment the chart, using the Manage Columns button.

Selecting the perfect timeframe for your data visualizations is now more intuitive than ever. This simplicity is vital when utilizing the CloudHealth Subscribe feature to automate regular report deliveries to your key stakeholders. To support this, we have launched three flexible methods for defining your reporting windows: you can pinpoint a specific range, select exact dates, or utilize dynamic sliding windows that remain relative to the current day—such as a view of the past week.

Finally, when you need that ultimate analysis platform (yes the mighty spreadsheet!) CloudHealth makes it super easy to export data for clean import and formula calculation.

Upgraded Standard Reports for AWS

Standard cost and usage reports for AWS EC2, RDS, and Data Transfer are available in the new experience. A key focus for these reports is usability, which involves simplifying the default views to reduce cognitive overload, and wherever possible are aligned with the FOCUS standard.

Seamless Saved Report Migration

Don't worry about losing all the hard work you have already put into creating reports! Saved reports on the classic CloudHealth experience for AWS EC2, Data Transfer, and RDS are now accessible to customers within the new CloudHealth experience.

  • Active Synchronization: Changes made to a Saved Report in the Classic experience will automatically reflect in the corresponding report in the new experience.

  • Safe Experimentation: Feel free to make changes to the report in the new experience, they won’t be reflected in the classic experience meaning your starting report is always available in the classic experience.

Finding and organizing reports in the new CloudHealth experience is easier than ever, and no matter how many reports you have they won’t clutter your left-hand navigation bar.

Expect more reports and datasets to make their way to the new CloudHealth experience very soon. Be sure to check out the official documentation to dive deeper into these features and start optimizing your cloud reporting today!
