Effortless Observability: Announcing DX UIM 23.4 CU7 with Configurable Golden Metrics, Streamlined Alarm Policy Management, and Hardened Security

We are excited to announce the General Availability (GA) of DX Unified Infrastructure Management (UIM) 23.4 Cumulative Update 7 (CU7). This update continues Broadcom’s commitment to providing a secure, scalable, and highly observable infrastructure monitoring solution.

DX UIM 23.4 CU7 introduces significant advancements in user experience through GUI-driven configurations, expanded platform support, and hardened security protocols. Below are the major updates available in this release.

1. Prioritize Critical Insights with Native Golden Metrics Configuration

Managing Golden Metrics is now more efficient and safer with a new native interface in the Operator Console. Golden Metrics are a curated set of key performance indicators displayed in the Operator Console’s Metric Viewer that help teams quickly assess infrastructure health. These metrics prioritize essential, high-impact data such as CPU, memory and disk usage to streamline troubleshooting.This enhancement eliminates the need for manual, error-prone edits to configuration files.

• GUI-Driven Workflow: Replace manual wasp.cfg edits with an intuitive, point-and-click dashboard.

• Zero Downtime: Apply metric changes instantly without requiring a restart of the wasp probe.

• Reduced Risk: Built-in validation minimizes syntax errors, ensuring more stable monitoring.

2. Streamlined Alarm Policy Management

Updates to the Alarm Policies interface  deliver a more intuitive experience that allows administrators to manage monitoring logic with greater precision.

• Policy Duplication: A new "Copy" feature allows you to duplicate existing monitoring logic instantly, modifying settings to fit new needs without manual reconfiguration.

• Expanded Regex Support: The character limit for regular expressions has been increased to 256 characters, supporting more complex filtering logic.

• CPU, Disk, Memory (CDM) Monitoring’s Custom Attributes: Alarm policies now support CDM custom attributes for process owner, name, and identifier.

3. Modernized Inventory & Platform Support

DX UIM 23.4 CU7 continues to extend its support for  modern operating environments while improving the way it gathers data.

• Windows Server Core (2022, 2025): Full support for Windows Core OS, allowing you to run the DX UIM Server, Hubs, and Robots on a smaller attack surface.

• PowerShell Integration: The robot now utilizes PowerShell instead of WMIC for Windows inventory collection, meeting modern security standards and audit requirements.

• Solaris Support: Added support for Solaris 11.4 x86_64.

4. Seamless QoS Consolidation and Monitoring Groups

Maintaining data integrity during infrastructure changes (like IP address reassignment) is now easier than ever.

• Continuous Performance History: The Operator Console now ensures seamless device tracking even when a device’s IP address changes. This eliminates the risk of duplicate records and fragmented data.

• Monitoring Group Cloning: Quickly duplicate existing Monitoring Groups (and their associated profiles) to speed the rollout of consistent configurations across new infrastructure.

5. Enhanced Reporting and Data Services (UIM BI)

Business Intelligence enhancements provide better data portability and visibility:

• Export Capabilities: Availability Reports can now be exported as .csv files. Tabular data from scheduled dashboards can be exported in both .csv and Excel formats.

• New Dashboards: A new Sample Dashboard for "Top N Metrics" is now available, along with improved aggregation intervals in the Device Trend dashboard.

6. Hardened Security and Core Stability

Security remains a top priority in CU7, with several notable updates to the underlying architecture.

• Library Updates: This release addresses vulnerabilities by updating 29 third-party libraries, including an upgrade to OpenSSL v3.5.5.

• Probe Optimizations: The EMS probe now features higher default memory limits to prevent "Out of Memory" errors, and the Robot controller now defaults first_probe_port to 48000 for simpler firewall management.

• Probe Compatibility Visibility: The Admin Console now displays "Java Version" and "Minimum Robot Version" columns to prevent deployment failures caused by version mismatches.
