DX UIM 23.4 Cumulative Update 6 (CU6), now available, delivers significant enhancements focused on increasing system resilience, providing advanced business intelligence, and streamlining monitoring governance. With advances in precision, security, and automation, this release helps teams extend the value of your monitoring infrastructure.

Introducing UIM Business Intelligence (UIM BI)

In this release, we officially introduce UIM Business Intelligence (UIM BI), our powerful successor to the Dashboard Designer. UIM BI includes a transformative suite of tools and widgets that make deeper, more actionable insights from your monitoring data readily available to users of all levels.

Powered by UIM Data Services (the ODATA APIs introduced in CU5), UIM BI enhances data consumption and visualization with several new capabilities that allow teams to easily  group, pivot, and analyze monitoring data like never before:

  • Grouped Multi-Series Line Chart Widget: Supporting  ODATA API consumption, this new widget allows you to draw a series of multiple lines simultaneously by grouping with metType, qosName, targets, and devices.

  • Pivot Functionality in Table Widget: The Table widget now supports pivot functionality for both SQL and UIM data sources. This enables advanced data aggregation and extends the use of calculations like Average, Count, Last, Max, Min, and Sum on these aggregated data.

  • Extended Context Selector: This widget has been enhanced to include Drop Down, DateTime, and a new TimeRange selector, offering more specific options for UIM data API calls.

  • Multi-Line Widget: This widget adds the capability to plot multiple lines from UIM data or SQL data sources, allowing for quick correlation across multiple data points in a single widget.

  • Export to PDF Capability: You can now export all dashboards and widgets in PDF format. Furthermore, PDFs generated from dashboards now feature selectable data.

Enhanced System Resilience and Security

Building on the core architecture of DX UIM, which is designed for enterprise-scale and complexity, this release continues to improve the stability, high availability, and core security of UIM environments.

Automatic Failover: Secondary Hub Configuration for Robot Deployments

The sethub controller callback has been significantly enhanced to support secondary hub configuration. This allows for a robot to automatically fail over to a designated secondary hub if the primary becomes unavailable.

  • Key Capabilities: Automatic Failover, Single Configuration Call, and persistence of secondary hub details in robot.cfg.

The enhancement is fully integrated with Unified Infrastructure Management API (UIMAPI), specifically within the controller/callback/sethub endpoint.

Core Platform and Security Updates

  • Review and Update the Access Level of Callbacks (CVE Fix): The security of several controller callbacks was improved in a robot hotfix (released earlier as 23.4.5.1). In addition to including those improvements, an identified issue has been fixed in robot 23.4.6, bringing stricter access control to your UIM deployment. Note: The improvements from the hotfix necessitate upgrading the RSP, dirscan, and MySQL probes.

  • Migration to Microsoft Playwright for Standardized PDF and UIM BI Reporting: We have replaced the deprecated PhantomJS library with Microsoft Playwright for PDF generation, preview, and scheduler integration.

Precision and Governance in Monitoring

CU6 brings improvements to core monitoring reports and management, ensuring data accuracy and clarity.

Device Availability Calculations and Enhancements to Maintenance Data Management

Device availability calculations are more precise. Maintenance Window histories now reflect situations when maintenance is ended manually before the planned time. This resolves reporting inconsistencies for device availability and reachability.

New configuration parameters allow you to purge maintenance data based on age automatically:

  • Delete_Archive_Schedule_After_Days: Removes the schedule from the Maintenance Window history after 366 days of schedule completion.

  • Purge_windows_history_days: Removes the schedule from the Maintenance Window history after the specified number of days following maintenance window completion.

Enhancements to Monitoring Governance Report

Monitoring Governance Report (MGR) is enhanced with new capabilities:

  • Insights Tab: This new summary tab displays key insights from the Monitoring Governance Report screens for a quick overview.

  • Baseline Data: New baseline data columns have been added to the Threshold data grid, presenting users with insights regarding  the normal/expected behavior of their asset metrics based on longer term analytics.

  • Report Emailing: The report and a summary can now be sent via email, simplifying distribution to other teams and stakeholders.

Monitoring Configuration Service (MCS) Enhancements

  • Instant Rationale for Disabled Templates Using Tooltip: Hovering over the Status icon in the MCS UI now displays a tooltip that clearly indicates the reason why a template has been disabled (e.g., maximum number of profiles reached, missing probe in archive, or missing dependencies). This helps users resolve issues in configuration deployments by guiding them to specific areas that require attention.

UIM Data Services API Enhancements

These enhancements include multiple API updates that improve reporting with more actionable insights for users:

  • Group Level APIs: Support for Group Level Trends and Group Level Metric APIs is added, including support for Group Id, MetType/QosName, and Target combinations in deviceTrendTableReport and metricReport.

  • API Response Changes: The availabilityReport property name has been changed from 'unreachable' to 'Reachability'. The deviceTrendTableReport response has been enhanced to include a new property, CsName.

Additionally, DX UIM 23.4 deployments will benefit from this CU6 release with the inclusion of defect resolutions, collectively improving functional performance, stability, security, and reliability metrics.
